Strong and durable CCA Treated Gum Poles resist rot, pests, and extreme weather.
Our Eucalyptus gum poles are locally and sustainably sourced and pressure-treated with CCA (Chromated Copper Arsenate) preservative. This treatment protects the poles against fungal decay, termites, and wood borers.
During treatment, the CCA preservative is impregnated and chemically fixed into the wood fibre, which prevents leaching of chemicals into the soil.
All poles are debarked before grading and supplied in their natural state, retaining their natural strength and slight taper. Treated pole diameters are measured at the thin end for accurate sizing.
Our building poles and fencing poles are treated to Hazard Class H4, making them suitable for both in-ground and above-ground external use.
Fencing & Agricultural Use
Ideal for cattle fencing, game fencing, electric fence poles, vineyard trellises and farm structures. Our most popular sizes are 75-99mm and 100-124mm in 2.4m and 3.0m lengths.
Building & Structural Use
Used for roof structures, pergolas, lapa construction, deck supports, retaining walls and load-bearing structures. Sizes 125mm upwards are graded for structural use.
Our poles are graded according to SANS 457 regulations and treated according to SANS 1288 requirements and NRCS specifications.
We are also a proud member of SAWPA (South African Wood Preservers Association).

Answer
CCA stands for Chromated Copper Arsenate. It’s a preservative forced deep into the wood under high pressure. H4 CCA treatment makes poles suitable for direct ground contact, protecting against rot, termites, and fungi for 20+ years.
Answer
When installed correctly with good drainage, H4 treated Eucalyptus poles last 20-30 years in ground contact. This is why H4 is the SANS standard for fencing and building poles in South Africa.
Answer
H3 is for above-ground use only (like roof trusses and decking). H4 is for in-ground and fresh water contact. For any fence pole or structural pole that goes into the soil, you must use H4.
Answer
Yes. All Sabie Poles are graded to SANS 457 and treated to SANS 1288 specifications, with NRCS approval. Every load comes with a treatment certificate on request.
