Sealing:
Use a penetrating oil- or water-based sealer for treated wood. Let the timber weather for 4–6 weeks before applying, unless otherwise specified. Sealing reduces surface cracking and moisture movement.
Staining:
Choose semi-transparent stains with pigment for UV protection. Avoid clear coatings, and use products suited to treated softwoods.
UV Protection:
Use stains or sealers with UV blockers to reduce graying. CCA treatment protects against rot, but not sun damage.
Avoid Film-Forming Finishes:
Avoid varnishes and paints, they can peel, trap moisture, and lead to blistering or mold.
The heartwood has a light pinkish-brown tone, while the sapwood is a lighter yellowish-white. However, there’s typically little visible difference between the two.
The grain is straight, with a medium and uniform texture throughout.
The heartwood is considered non-durable to perishable when it comes to decay resistance, unless it has been CCA-treated.
