Non-Slip decking is the crown jewel of decking planks. Timber decking is environmentally friendly, temperature neutral and perfect for any area. However, there are a few specific areas that come to mind: patio decking, poolside decking, and jetty decking
Why consider timber non-slip decking for your deck?
What is non-slip / anti-slip decking?
In essence, anti-slip decking is decking that has either a coating or a texture that reduces the risk of slipping when it is wet. In the case of wood decking, the texture is added with a specialized machine to create prominent ridges on the wood. These ridges prevent people from slipping.
Note: Decking planks are used for the exterior of your home. This includes, but are not limited to:
- Patio Decking
- Poolside Decking
- Pergolas
- Jetty
- Forest Walkways
All of these surfaces are likely to be exposed to water from nature like rain, the sea, dams etc. Therefore, it is important to have solid, anti-slip decking planks to ensure the safety of the people making use of the area.
Why choose wood non-slip decking?
There are many decking materials available, but the most loved decking material is always wood decking. Why do we believe that wood beats all of it’s competitors?
Aesthetically
While you may get a wood-look deck, nothing beats the feel and look of REAL wood. Timber adds a feeling of luxury and style to any area. Aesthetically, it will be almost impossible to find something to beat the real thing. Therefore, it is to go-to option for most homeowners.
Affordability
Wood decks are more affordable than their counterparts. So even if you are working on a budget, you will find that wooden decking planks are your best option. You can choose between softwood, hardwood, treated or not treated decking planks. Therefore, there’s a range of options available to you, at an affordable price. Music to any homeowner’s ears!
Longevity and Design
When investing in a wooden deck, you need to ensure that you check the quality of the timber and supplier. Proper wooden CCA TANALISED TREATED deck planks made from S5 (Construction Grade) timber are the most durable.
Wooden decks might need ongoing maintenance; however, this is not always a con. This means that you will be able to change the aesthetic whenever you want to. Tired of the Mahogany color deck? Simply switch over to the Oak next time.
One of the popular alternatives, composite decking, fades over the years with direct sunlight. It turns into a paler version of the originally installed decks. And the only way to get it back to its original state is to replace the whole deck. This can be a frustrating and costly experience.
Environmentally friendly
Wooden decks don’t reflect the rays of the sun, so they are cooler than plastic, cement or tiles. In case of a storm or earthquake wood will reintegrate and decompose back into the environment where cement, plastic and tiles will take centuries to degrade.
Therefore, all things considered, wooden decking is your best option for longevity and design combined.
What is the difference between hardwood and softwood decking planks?
Before making a purchase, you need to know what you are buying. There are two main types of timber that are used for making decking planks. Softwood and Hardwood.
Softwoods have a lower density compared to the hardwoods. This makes them softer, which can make it more prone to small dents and scratches. These decking planks are the most affordable. At Sabie Poles, our softwood decking planks are CCA Treated to ensure that they will be protected from the natural elements and insects that might damage the timber.
Hardwoods have a higher density. Therefore, they are more scratch and dent-resistant. However, insects and other wood deteriorating factors are less likely to damage hardwoods. Therefore we leave the hardwood decking planks untreated. Hardwood will last a long time without any additional treatment. Therefore, they are more pricey than softwood decking planks.
