There’s a certain warmth that only real timber can bring into a space. It has character, texture, and a solid feel that makes a house or office feel more considered. This is the exact feeling that Opulent Living is after, they create custom pine furniture that is made around your space, your needs, and your vision.
Based in Sabie, Mpumalanga, Sandile Malikane, also known as ‘GHOST’ and founder of Opulent Living, designs and builds furniture. From statement headboards and kitchen cupboards to wardrobes and custom wall units that become the feature of a room.
A custom wall unit for Sabie Poles
One of our recent projects was a custom wall unit for the new Sabie Poles office, commissioned by Marina Daniel (Owner of Sabie Poles).
The brief was to create something strong, clean, and practical, while showing off the natural beauty of pine timber. The result was a statement timber display stand built to suit the office perfectly functional enough for daily use, but distinctive enough to give the space its own identity.
For this project, Sandile used 6-meter Pine timber flooring and brandering supplied by Sabie Poles.
The build took five days, including careful measuring, cutting, hand-sanding, assembly, and allowing the glue to cure properly. Every part of the timber display stand had to be finished properly before installation.
Installation also came with its own challenge. The office walls were exceptionally dense, so securing a heavy timber wall unit required extra care. “I consulted a local wall-construction specialist to make sure the unit could be anchored safely and securely without damaging the wall,” Sandile said.
To protect the pine and bring out its natural colour, I used Sabie Poles Khuni Sealer with a golden-brown tint.
The finish gave the timber display stand a rich, warm tone while helping protect it against moisture and everyday wear. It also enhanced the grain beautifully, leaving the unit with a clean, professional look.
“The sealer was great quality; it brought out the rich wood colour and sealed the timber to last. I will definitely be using these products on future builds and recommending them to my clients,” said Sandile.
