Pine Square Beams

Timber square beams is the way of future, sustainable building. The world of timber construction is expanding rapidly, with larger structures being built and the exceptional quality of timber being showcased in innovative ways. The future of timber construction is bright, yet it demands advanced technology, which isn’t always accessible to everyone. So, how can we navigate this challenge? At Sabie Poles, we’ve devised a simple solution that keeps the focus on sustainability and versatility. To keep it simple.

Timber is not just a sustainable solution for our future; it is also incredibly versatile, enabling the construction of remarkable structures. While we have a wide variety of timber products, in this blog, we’ll discuss of our standout products: square-cut timber beams.

Why choose square timber beams?

Have you ever noticed the stunning exposed beams in some lodge-style homes? These structural elements eliminate the need for dropped ceilings, fostering a spacious and airy ambiance while adding significant height to any room. This design maximizes vertical space, creating an inviting environment that feels both open and expansive.

Exposed beams not only add warmth and character to interiors but can also enhance various architectural styles—from rustic and farmhouse to minimalist and industrial—depending on their material and finish. Additionally, in certain climates, exposed beams can improve airflow and ventilation, allowing heat to rise naturally, which helps cool the space. Square beams are ideal for such type of design.

Furthermore, our square beams serve as robust load-bearing posts, thanks to their structural integrity and dense composition. They effectively handle compressive loads and distribute weight reliably, making them ideal for building frameworks, especially where stability and resilience are critical.

Choose between two options

Our product line includes eucalyptus square-cut beams which primarily is a hardwood option and pine square-cut beams, which is a softwood alternative. Each type offers unique advantages tailored to various construction needs;

Timber beams

Eucalyptus Beams

Eucalyptus is renowned for its density and strength, making it a top choice for structural applications where durability is essential. Its natural density enables it to handle heavy loads, making eucalyptus beams suitable for framing and support structures.

Moreover, eucalyptus timber is naturally resistant to insect damage and decay, although, since eucalyptus also consists of softwood, we still recommend treatment such as CCA or TAN E penetration.

Visually, eucalyptus boasts an attractive grain pattern with rich hues of red and brown, making it an excellent choice for exposed structural beams or decorative purposes. In very dry climates, eucalyptus may expand and crack, creating a rustic look that many clients appreciate.

Pine timber beams

Pine Beams

Pine beams are celebrated for their natural beauty, highlighted by distinct growth rings that lend a unique elegance to each beam. As a softwood, pine undergoes effective treatments for insect resistance and weatherproofing, enhancing its durability.

One common misconception is that softwoods like pine lack strength. However, when used appropriately, timber can be exceptionally robust, including pine. Its straight grain and even texture contribute to stability, making it reliable for load-bearing applications while reducing the likelihood of warping over time.

At Sabie Poles, our manufacturing process is straightforward and environmentally friendly. We source our timber from certified forests and use minimal energy in production, ensuring a sustainable supply of square beams.

Learn The Specifications

When purchasing square beams from Sabie Poles, you’ll find that both eucalyptus and pine beams are available in maximum lengths of 6 meters, with a width of up to 200mm x 200mm.

  • Eucalyptus Beams: We offer these either untreated or envelope-treated with CCA or TAN E. Envelope treatment penetrates only the sapwood, leaving the hardwood core untreated. Fortunately, the core consist of its own natural oils that provide protection against the elements.
  • Pine Beams: Available untreated or treated with CCA or TAN E (suitable for outdoor use, including inground contact). Pine beams can be provided rough sawn or planed, depending on your project requirements.

Recommended Finishes

To maintain the integrity of both eucalyptus and pine beams, we recommend using solvent-based sealers. These sealers penetrate the wood, preventing peeling and offering excellent UV protection. Various tints are available, allowing you to achieve your desired color while enhancing the wood’s natural beauty.

Although hardwoods typically resist penetration, solvent-based sealing can create a protective layer that penetrates approximately 10%, providing an added layer of durability that other products may not offer.

We recommend using Timberlife sealants because of the quality and works well with both hardwood and softwood.
