Minimum Order Quantity for Importing Timber from South Africa

We use two methods of transport namely Road freight and ocean Freight.

Road Transport

Road freight

Road freight is for transporting timber over short to medium distances, typically within the same region or country. It is cost-effective and allows for easy access to many locations, including remote areas with limited infrastructure. For these types of orders, we accept a minimum order of at least 32 tons.

We use reliable transportation contractors who are ensured to deliver our products to the required destination safely and on time.

Container ship

Ocean freight

Ocean freight is used for transporting timber over longer distances, typically between countries or continents. It is cost-effective for transporting large volumes of timber. It is particularly suitable for transporting timber products that are bulky, heavy, or difficult to handle. For these orders, we accept a minimum order of at least 23 tons.

When transporting timber by sea, it is typically placed inside containers that are sealed with a unique number. This number should match the customs documents. Only customs officials have the authority to open the containers. Even then, they will supply documentation that includes the reasons for opening the container. These rules are set in place for safety, among other, reasons.

Lead Time for Importing Timber from South Africa

Lead times can vary significantly. It all depends on the following:

–  Whether we already have stock available or whether we have an order where we need to

   manufacture custom products.

– Where the delivery destination

– Whether we should use road or ocean freight or both.

Once all paperwork is finalized and we have stock, we arrange transportation. Road transport can take up to 7 working days.

Ocean transport is a little more complicated than that. The process between finalizing an order and making a booking can take up to 10 working days.

Firstly, we need to ensure that we have the necessary space and equipment available for the shipment. This can involve coordinating with our shipping partners and reserving container space on the appropriate vessel. Depending on the time of year and the availability of vessels, this process can take several days to complete.

Once the necessary space has been secured, we need to prepare the shipment for transport. This includes properly packing and securing the timber to ensure that it arrives at its destination in good condition.

We also need to complete all necessary customs paperwork and obtain the required approvals and permits. This is to ensure that the shipment can clear customs and be delivered to its destination without any delays or complications.
